Spoleto
Its ancient origins are attested by numerous archaeological finds exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum, with a beautiful section dedicated to the Roman era. Also dating back to this period is the Casa Romana, a patrician domus from the 1st century AD, in which the beautiful original mosaic floors that adorn all the rooms brought to light are preserved. Don’t miss the National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto, set up in the evocative rooms of the Rocca Albornoziana: its fifteen rooms display beautiful paintings, sculptures and mosaics that offer an exclusive overview of the artistic trends of the vast territory of the Duchy of Spoleto between the 4th and 15th centuries AD. The city also hosts the important collection of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna G. Carandente, inside Palazzo Collicola, which houses works by Calder, Smith, Le Witt, Leoncillo, Consagra and Burri. And again: the Earth Sciences Laboratory, the Diocesan Museum and Basilica of Sant’Eufemia, the Museum of the former Spoleto-Norcia Railway and the Museum of Textiles and Costume.
